These Terms & Conditions explain how you can buy from Bassani’s Portuguese Tiles (“Bassani’s”, “we”, “us”) through this website. Please read them carefully before placing an order. By placing an order, you agree to these terms.
The short version
- Our tiles are handmade to order in Portugal; natural variation in colour, size and glaze is part of their character.
- Prices are in US dollars. We accept payment by bank transfer, and production begins once payment is received.
- Delivery is complimentary on orders of $500 or more; otherwise standard worldwide delivery is $45.
- Unused standard tiles may be returned within 30 days of delivery; samples and custom commissions cannot be returned.
- Report any damage in transit within 7 days, with photos, and we will replace the tiles at no cost.
- Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

If you are buying as a consumer, nothing in these terms affects the rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your country of residence. If you are buying for a business or a project, our Trade Program team may agree separate terms with you in writing.
Our handmade products
Bassani’s tiles are shaped, hand-painted and glazed by artisans in Portugal. Natural variations in colour, tone, size, thickness, glaze and pattern are an inherent characteristic of handmade ceramics and are not defects.
- Each tile design shows a shade variation rating, from V1 (uniform) to V4 (substantial variation).
- Colours on screen depend on your device and lighting and may differ from the finished tiles. We recommend ordering a free sample before you buy.
- Stated dimensions are nominal and may vary slightly from tile to tile.
- Suitability information, such as shower walls, light-traffic floors or covered outdoor walls, is given on each product page. Please confirm with your installer that the tiles suit your intended use and are installed according to good practice.
Prices & payment
All prices are shown in US dollars (USD). Field tiles are priced per tile, while borders, corners, hexagons and brass trims are priced per piece. Delivery charges are shown at checkout before you place your order.
We currently accept payment by bank transfer (pay by invoice). After you place an order, we email secure payment details within one business day. Production begins once payment has been received in full. Please check with your bank whether it charges fees for international transfers.
If we discover an obvious pricing error, we will contact you before processing your order, and you may choose to confirm the order at the correct price or cancel it.
Orders & acceptance
When you place an order, you will receive an email acknowledging it. Your order is accepted, and a contract is formed, when we confirm your order and its production timeline by email.
We may decline an order, for example if a product is unavailable or we are unable to deliver to your address. If we do, we will let you know and refund any payment you have made in full.
Production & delivery
Our tiles are made to order. The production and delivery timeline is confirmed by email after you order and depends on the designs, quantities and destination. Timelines are estimates, and we will keep you informed of any change.
We deliver worldwide. Delivery is complimentary on orders of $500 or more; otherwise, standard worldwide delivery costs $45. Orders containing only free samples ship free. Full details are on our Shipping & Returns page.
Import duties, taxes or customs fees charged by the destination country are normally payable by the recipient.
Ownership of the tiles passes to you once we have received payment in full. Responsibility for the tiles passes to you when they are delivered to the address you gave us.
Checking your tiles
Please check your delivery on arrival and inspect all tiles within 7 days. Tiles damaged in transit must be reported within 7 days of delivery, with photos, and we will replace them at no cost.
Before installation, lay out tiles from several boxes to confirm that the quantity, pattern and shade are as you expect, and contact us before fixing them if anything concerns you. Issues with shade, size or finish that are visible before installation should be raised before the tiles are installed.
Returns & cancellations
Unused standard tiles in their original packaging may be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return shipping is paid by the customer. Please contact us before sending anything back. Once the returned tiles have arrived and been checked, we refund the price of the tiles returned.
Samples, custom tiles and special-order commissions are made especially for you and cannot be returned, unless they are faulty or were damaged in transit.
If you wish to cancel an order, please contact us as soon as possible and we will do our best to help. Any statutory cancellation rights that apply to you are not affected.
Custom & special-order commissions
Custom tiles are developed through a design consultation. We send you a digital preview for approval, and production begins only once you have approved the design and your payment has been received.
A digital preview shows the design, layout and colours as closely as possible, but hand-painted tiles will naturally vary in tone and line from the preview and from one another.
Prices and timelines for custom work are quoted individually. By sharing your own artwork, you confirm that you have the right to use it and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
Samples
One free sample is available per tile design. A sample shows the colour, glaze and texture of a design; because every tile is handmade, the tiles in your order will vary naturally from your sample. Samples cannot be returned.
Intellectual property
All content on this website, including tile designs, patterns, photographs, text and graphics, is owned by or licensed to Bassani’s and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce or use it for commercial purposes without our written permission.
Using our website
Please use this website lawfully and do not attempt to interfere with its operation or security. If you create an account, keep your login details confidential; you are responsible for activity under your account.
We work hard to keep the website accurate and available, but we may update or correct its content at any time and cannot guarantee uninterrupted access.
Our liability
We are responsible for supplying tiles that match their description and are of satisfactory quality, as required by law. We are not responsible for loss or damage caused by incorrect installation, unsuitable substrates, adhesives or grouts, or use of the tiles outside the applications indicated on the product page.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any order is limited to the price paid for that order. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.
Privacy
We use your personal information as described in our Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page when you place your order applies to that order.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which Bassani’s is established. If you are a consumer, you also benefit from any mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence and may bring proceedings in its courts. We always prefer to resolve any concern directly, so please contact us first.
