Yes. Every tile design has a free sample option — one sample per design — so you can see the colour, glaze and texture in your own light before you commit. Accent pieces such as borders, corners and trims are not offered as samples. An order that contains only samples ships free of charge.

Measure each surface, add the areas together and enter the total on the product page — it adds 10% overage automatically. Allow a little more for diagonal layouts, rooms with many cuts or large pattern repeats. We also recommend keeping a few spare tiles for future repairs, because every production batch is unique.

It is always best to order everything for a project at once. Handmade tiles are painted and fired in batches, so colour and shade can differ slightly from one batch to the next. If you do need more, contact us with your original order number and we will do our best to make a close match.

Yes. Every Bassani’s tile is shaped, hand-painted and glazed by artisans in Portugal and made to order. Subtle differences in tone, line and glaze are a natural part of handmade ceramics — they are what give an installation its depth and character.

Field tiles are sold per tile in two sizes: 6″ × 6″ (15 × 15 cm) and 8″ × 8″ (20 × 20 cm). Designs come in matte or satin finishes, and some solid colours are also available in gloss. Prices range from $12.95 to $22.95 per tile, while borders, corners, hexagons and brass trims are sold per piece.

Our shade scale shows how much natural variation to expect between tiles of the same design: V1 is uniform, V2 has slight variation, V3 moderate variation and V4 substantial variation. You will find the rating on every product page. Higher ratings create the lively, hand-finished look that makes handmade tiles so distinctive.

Every design is suitable for interior walls, and almost all are ideal for kitchen backsplashes. Many are also rated for shower walls or fireplace surrounds, and selected designs for light-traffic floors or covered outdoor walls. Check the “Suitable for” details on each product page, or filter the shop by suitability.

Yes, where the design is rated for it. In showers, glazed tiles perform well when they are installed over a waterproofed substrate with full adhesive coverage and sealed grout. Outdoors, choose designs rated for covered outdoor walls: handmade ceramic tiles are not recommended for surfaces exposed to frost, standing water or pool immersion. If in doubt, ask our team before you order.

Yes. Through a free design consultation we can adapt one of our patterns or develop your own design. You choose the size and shape, a hand-painted colour palette, the finish (gloss, matte or satin), the edge detail and the application — walls, floors, interiors or covered exteriors. It follows four steps. First, you share your vision — a sketch, a photograph or a colour you love. We then design your tile and send a digital preview for your approval. Once approved, your tiles are handcrafted in Portugal, and finally they are carefully packed and delivered to you.

Yes, we deliver worldwide. Delivery is complimentary on orders of $500 or more; below that, standard worldwide delivery is a flat $45. Orders that contain only free samples ship free of charge. See Shipping & Returns for full details.

Every tile is made to order, so timing depends on the designs and quantities you choose. After you order, our team confirms your production and delivery timeline by email. Production begins once your payment has been received.

Every tile is inspected by hand and packed in Portugal in protective packaging designed for long-distance transport. Please check your delivery when it arrives and keep the original packaging until you have inspected every box.

Depending on your country, a delivery may be subject to import duties, taxes or customs fees set by the local authorities. These charges are normally payable by the recipient. Your local customs office can tell you what applies to handmade ceramic tiles shipped from Portugal.

We currently accept payment by bank transfer (pay by invoice). After you place your order, our team emails secure payment details within one business day, together with your confirmed production timeline. All prices are shown in US dollars (USD).

Production begins as soon as your payment has been received. Please use your order number as the payment reference so we can match your transfer quickly. For your security, only use payment details sent by Bassani’s in reply to your order — if anything looks unusual, contact us before making a transfer.

Unused standard tiles in their original packaging may be returned within 30 days of delivery, and return shipping is paid by the customer. Please contact us before sending anything back so we can confirm your return and share the return instructions.

No. Samples and custom or special-order commissions are made especially for you and cannot be returned. That is why we recommend ordering samples first and reviewing your digital preview carefully before production begins.

We are sorry if that happens. Report any tiles damaged in transit within 7 days of delivery, with photos of the tiles and the packaging, and we will replace them at no cost to you.

Wipe them with a soft cloth or sponge, warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner, then dry them to avoid water marks. Avoid acidic, abrasive or bleach-based products — including vinegar and limescale removers — which can dull the glaze and damage the grout.

The glazed face does not need sealing, but cement-based grout does. Apply a penetrating grout sealer once the grout has fully cured, and refresh it periodically. Because handmade glazes can be slightly porous at the edges, always test your grout and sealer on a spare tile first.

We recommend an experienced tiler, ideally one who has worked with handmade tiles. Ask them to blend tiles from several boxes, dry-lay the pattern before fixing, use a suitable ceramic tile adhesive and allow grout joints of 2–3 mm. Our tile care & installation guide covers every step.
