Our Story

Bassani’s began with a simple belief: the beauty of Portuguese tiles can transform any space. That belief led us to Portugal’s tile workshops, where artisans still shape, paint and glaze azulejos by hand, as they have for more than five hundred years.

Today we share their artistry with the world. Every Bassani’s tile is made to order in Portugal and delivered worldwide, bringing story, texture and soul to kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces.

From clay to your wall

Our Process

Every Bassani’s tile passes through the same four stages in Portugal, guided at each step by skilled and patient hands.

  1. Natural clay

    Each tile begins as natural clay, pressed into shape and left to dry slowly for a strong, even body.

  2. Hand-painted

    Artisans trace each motif and paint it by hand with brushes and mineral pigments, so no two tiles are exactly alike.

  3. Kiln-fired glaze

    A glaze is applied and fired in the kiln, fusing colour and glaze into a durable, luminous surface.

  4. Inspected & packed

    Every tile is checked by hand, then protectively packed for its journey to your door, anywhere in the world.

All tiles are made to order: production begins once payment is received, and our team confirms your timeline by email.

Craftsmanship

Made by Hand, Meant to Be Lived With

Hand-painted tiles carry the marks of the people who make them: the pooling of a glaze, the movement of a brushstroke, a gentle shift in tone from one tile to the next. We see that variation as the signature of genuine craft.

  • Painted by hand with brushes and mineral pigments.
  • Natural shade variation, rated for every design from V1 (uniform) to V4 (substantial).
  • Field tiles in 6″ × 6″ (15 × 15 cm) and 8″ × 8″ (20 × 20 cm), in matte or satin, with gloss on selected solids.
  • A free sample of every tile design, so you can judge glaze and colour in your own light.
