Bassani’s Portuguese Tiles is committed to making its website accessible to as many people as possible, including people with disabilities and people who use assistive technologies. This statement explains what we have done, where we are still improving and how to contact us if you need help.
Our commitment
We design and build this website with accessibility in mind and aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning and neurological disabilities.
Conformance status
We consider this website partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This means that most of the content meets the standard, but some parts may not yet fully conform. We review the website regularly and fix issues as we find them.
Accessibility features
- Clear structure: semantic HTML with landmarks and a logical heading hierarchy, so screen reader users can move around by region and heading.
- Keyboard access: a “Skip to content” link, and menus, dialogs, accordions and forms that can be used with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus indicator.
- Text alternatives: descriptive alternative text for meaningful images, while purely decorative images are hidden from assistive technologies.
- Readable design: text colours chosen for contrast, information that does not rely on colour alone, and a layout that adapts to screen size and browser zoom.
- Accessible forms: labelled fields, clear instructions, and status and error messages that are announced to screen readers.
- Motion control: animations, parallax and 3D effects are switched off when your device’s “reduce motion” setting is enabled.
Languages & reading direction
Our website is available in seven languages: English, Portuguese, Hebrew, Spanish, Italian, French and Arabic. Every page declares its language, so assistive technologies can use the correct pronunciation, and Hebrew and Arabic pages are displayed right to left with a mirrored layout.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, you may encounter some limitations:
- Some features, such as parts of the cart, checkout and account pages, are provided by third-party software and may not fully conform.
- Product photographs capture handmade patterns in a detail that text alternatives can only summarise, so our product descriptions also describe colours, motifs and finishes in words.
- While translations are being completed, some content may temporarily appear in English.
Compatibility
The website is designed to work with current versions of major browsers, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, and with assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers and speech recognition software. It relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA. Most content remains available without JavaScript, although interactive features such as search, the cart and dialogs require it.
